Maintaining Your Agricultural Equipment's Parts
Farm work is just as demanding on equipment as it is on people. As powerful and durable as farm equipment is, it still needs regular maintenance in order to function at its best and last as long as possible. If you need some advice on how to best maintain your farm equipment’s parts, this guide from K.C. Nielsen Ltd. can help.
Know Your Equipment
There are hundreds of different makes and models of farm equipment currently in use. Each one has its own quirks and peculiarities when it comes to maintenance. That’s why you should always consult your owner’s manual when it comes to maintaining your farm equipment. It will contain a lot of helpful information in regards to how to best take care of your specific model.
The Tires
Tractors need a lot of traction to do their jobs, so keeping your tractor’s tires in good condition is important. Besides just inspecting the treads for excessive wearing, try to keep their tire pressure to within the manufacturer-recommended minimum.
The Engine
Your farm equipment’s engine is dependent on oil, hydraulic fluid, and coolant to keep everything running at peak efficiency. These fluids need to occasionally be checked and topped off to maximize performance and make sure the engine continues to function. If you notice unusual liquid pooling under your equipment, you most likely have a leak on your hands. Finally, don’t forget to swap out the filters as often as your manufacturer recommends.
The Frame
A few light scratches and dings are nothing unusual when it comes to farm equipment. You only need to be worried if you notice anything severe enough to threaten your equipment’s structural integrity. If things get that bad, it’s time to schedule a service appointment.
The Attachments
Never attempt to use damaged attachments with your equipment. Not only are damaged attachments less efficient, they are also likely to cause an accident. Get your attachments fixed before you attempt to use it again.
